Review
Summary |
WellButrin is one of the newer antidepressants on the market, and it is becoming increasingly popular for its reportedly lower instances of side effects. However, treating depression is not the only use for this drug. It is also marketed under the brand name Zyban, and prescribed to help with smoking cessation. In addition, Wellbutrin has been used to treat attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder, restless leg syndrome, and even obesity.
While there have been some incredible advances in treatments for depression and other disorders, consumers should be aware of all their options before making a firm decision. We will carefully examine this drug in order to determine for whom it is best suited, and what alternatives may be available.

 | Ingredients in Focus |
|
WellButrin is an aminoketone, or selective catecholamine reuptake inhibitor. Catecholamines include the chemicals dopamine and norepinephrine. Unlike SSRIs such as Prozac, it has little effect on serotonin.
When one nerve cell sends a message to another nerve cell in the form of neurotransmitter, up to 10% of the chemicals in that message can be left behind. Drugs like WellButrin work by giving the second cell more time to receive the dopamine and norepinephrine, thus keeping these chemicals from becoming depleted. Scientists believe that this restores the balance in the brain, helping to ease symptoms of depression.
It has also been shown to block the reception of nicotine in the brain, which is why this drug is often prescribed to those who are trying to quit smoking.

As discussed, WellButrin is used to treat general depression, as well as Seasonal Affective Disorder, which causes individuals to feel particularly depressed during the winter months. Although this drug is generally well-tolerated and has been shown to be quite effective for those suffering from these illnesses, it is not necessarily right for everybody.
All of us have ups and downs for various reasons – stress and PMS are two major contributing factors. Those who find themselves occasionally low on patience and prone to occasional irritation may want to consider taking a supplement to help put them on a more even keel. Consumers may be surprised to learn that the natural form of the mineral lithium is quite mild and also quite effective for just this purpose. While the synthetic form is an extremely potent drug, those taking the natural form of lithium will likely notice subtle improvements in their outlook.

 | Final Thoughts |
|
Of course, it goes without saying that individuals who believe that they might be suffering from any form of depression should speak with their doctor. However, there are some excellent options for those who are generally healthy, but would like to ease the stress of day-to day life. For example, the natural form of the mineral lithium has been shown to be quite helpful for women experiencing mood swings due to PMS, or anybody struggling with frazzled nerves due to their hectic schedule.
When used in combination with an enhancing substance like Orotate, just a small amount of lithium is enough to help individuals feel more like themselves.
