CALMadvantage® is a dietary supplement that is advertised as a “feel good” formula. This product is said to elevate moods while offering non-drowsy properties to boost energies. According to its web description, CALMadvantage® will help users both relieve stress and improve concentration. L-Theanine is found in tea plants and does contain caffeine properties. It is said to be contained in Green Tea, and is also purported to produce a “calming effect.” Though, its exact effect on the body is still unknown. However, many nutritionists urge consumers to avoid caffeine-based supplements since they have been known to cause adverse side effects such as nausea and jitteriness.
5-HTP is an amino acid that is said to increase serotonin amounts in the brain. As well as boost moods this ingredients is also advertised to suppress the appetite. It is further purported to treat insomnia which may be useful if L-Theanine increases daily stimulation.
MSM is better known for its supposed “magic bullet” effect on certain types of arthritis. Its use as mood elevator is now well documented and ultimately unfounded at this point in time.

Unfortunately, the CALMadvantage® website is rather low in function. There is no product description beyond the advertisements and slogans. We were rather disappointed to find that the manufacturer did not offer cited research to show that the product had been rigorously tested. However, there were several links to articles the product had supposedly been featured in, but the links failed to work properly at time of print.
This website also lacked testimonials from past consumers who found success with this particular product. We do find that consumer feedback can demonstrate the success rate of a supplement, and do suspect that manufacturers fail to display testimonials when they have no positive ones to share.

This product may interest those consumers who were intrigued by the clever advertising campaigns such as “catch the wave.” However, the formulation that this supplement provides may fall short of boosting actual moods as advertised. We were concerned by the contained caffeine source, and ultimately were confused as caffeine is a stimulant and this supplement is advertised to have “calming” effects.
For those interested in CALMadvantage® a one-month supply costs around $20. Though, this does not include shipping so the end cost will be more. However, consumers who want to avoid stimulants in their mood elevators may want to look elsewhere.
